I asked myself , how did she remember it? So i googled it. I found out that the neural structures are crucial for memory are working , the hippo-campus that is in charge of storing new memories, and the prefrontal cortex that is in charge of retrieving those memories. Since they are still developing so they only capture part of the present as it flows by.Meaning that since Xianah watches the Little Rascals almost everyday she remembers it.
I will watch over my three year old niece for about the next two months for an AP english assignmen. We will be able to see how she grows and learns more with the time period we have. We will be suprised and hopefully not left with a lot of questions about a child's development.

Remembering
One evening, we got back to the apartment, where we just started to make dinner when out of the nowhere Xianah, my niece, repeats almost word for word a part from The Little Rascals. My brother and I turned to each other and were just amazed. It was so crazy for her to have remembered it. We decided to record her saying it , so we asked her to repeat what she had said.

Can't get over how adorable she is! I wonder how many times she had to watch it to memorize it? The part that was really interesting to me was the prefrontal cortex that is in charge of retrieving memories. Well since people with a history of concussions tend to forget things easier is that what is damaged when you receive one? Maybe it loses a attribute that kids that are still growing don't have either I wonder if there connected.
ReplyDeleteWatching your niece memorizes that line reminds me of my sister, who is five. My sister also has a good memory only to songs from the movie Frozen. I hope you get to learn more about your niece and you're able to watch her grow.
ReplyDeleteOkay first of all, your niece is so cute! I like the fact that you did some research to know why she remembered that. I cant wait to see what else you learn throughout your observations. Nice blog
